Ever heard the phrase “You are what you think” or “What you focus on expands”?

It’s easy to take your thoughts for granted, or feel you are in control of what you think about, however, we are only aware of our thoughts 5% of the time.

YES 95% of the time you are talking to yourself without realising what you are saying. These are basically the same thoughts and self-talk you’ve had with yourself day after day, year after year.

What we say to ourselves and how we perceive the world determines our actions and responses to the things that happen to us.  We go through life looking for the proof that what we think, what we BELIEVE at a deep level, is true.

Where do your beliefs and thoughts come from?

Put simply – YOUR LIFE, especially your childhood. This includes experiences, interactions and how you perceived the things you saw, heard, read and did as a child.

When you came into this world you needed to figure out very quickly how to survive, how the world worked and what was right, wrong and your place in your surroundings. To do this the brain is wired in our early years to download ‘useful’ information as fact.

It takes on the significant things we see, hear and experience as our rules for survival. Not everything we take on board is true though, and may cause us to created beliefs and a perspective that holds us back later in life.

This “programming” is stored in your sub-conscious, habitual level of the mind. From here it can run this habitual thinking without you needing to be aware of it. These rules determine how you look at the world and the actions you take. Hence the frustration when you want to change but find yourself making the same bad decisions over again.
