Healing Your Trauma Without Re-living It.

Case Study: Sarah’s Journey with Root Cause Therapy & PSYCH-K®

When Sarah first reached out, in May of 2025, she was exhausted from the events listed below, highly stressed, broken emotionally and very much in fight or flight.

She had just come out of respite care for one month because her new home hadn’t been ready to move into.  When we first met she felt completely drained, emotionally, mentally and physically.

She was fed up of just crying and didn’t want talking based therapy, reliving the last few years. She’d been through enough already and just wanted to feel better.

 Sarah had been through:

• The breakdown of a 30-year marriage

• Divorce following years of emotional and verbal abuse

• A worsening of her MS symptoms due to stress

• Selling the family home and moving somewhere new

• Finding a property suitable for her limited mobility

• Supporting her eldest son as he moved into his first home

• Supporting her youngest son through A levels and university applications

A switling pattern possibly light or water beyond is possible trees you can just make out it is green. It's to depict how you can't see the possibilities clearly when you are stressed.

She had spent years holding it all together her nervous system was in complete overwhelm.

She’d known me for a long time (since 2010) so even though she wasn’t entirely sure what Root Cause Therapy or PSYCH-K® involved, she trusted me and the process and wanted to try something different.

What mattered most was that she wouldn’t have to relive everything again.

Starting Point

When Sarah began, she was physically exhausted, anxious and frustrated with her body. Her MS symptoms had worsened under the constant stress response. She described being “in fight or flight all the time.” Her confidence had dropped, she was finding it hard to make decisions, and she carried a lot of guilt for needing help.

The focus was on releasing the trapped emotions and survival energy that had been sitting in her system for years. Since childhood. It wasn’t about talking through what happened but allowing her body to release what it had been holding on to. She began noticing small but powerful shifts. She felt calmer, her sleep improved, and she started experiencing short moments of lightness and clarity she hadn’t felt in years.

The Process

In total Sarah received six sessions.  To be precise the time interval from the first to last session was four months and one week.  The  first two sessions were Root Cause Therapy, with the remaining sessions were PSYCH-K®. Each session followed what her mind and body were ready for.

An image of someone holding a small piece of paper with the words 'I can't do it' written in black. On the right you can see a pair of scissors which is cutting through the ' and t to change the words to I can do it.

It was important that Sarah felt in control throughout. She often commented on how surprising it was that the sessions were fun and the positive changes quick. There was no endless talking, no rehashing painful memories, and no need to force anything. She would start with a theme, and by the end, we’d uncover it had been about something deeper, like “I have to do everything myself” or “I don’t deserve to rest.”

As Sarah’s subconscious beliefs began to shift, her body responded. She started to trust herself again, felt less anxious, and stopped apologising for existing. We worked through forgiveness, self-worth, independence, and freedom. Over time, her internal dialogue softened. What used to sound like “I can’t” or “I should be coping better” became “I am enough,” “I deserve to be well,” and “I love myself unconditionally.

Sarah’s Reflections On Our Time Together

Each session starts with Rachael asking what I wanted to work on. You start with an idea of what you think it’ll be about, and it turns out to be something completely different. Then Rachael uses a Process which selects which of her many tools is the one that’s appropriate for the session.

Each session works in a different way, but it is fun, bonkers and quick. No crying required. No picking the scab over and over.

Where Sarah Is Now In Her Words

Considering how much trauma I had to deal with, I am in such a great place now. I am happy from the inside out. I feel better about myself, can look back with new eyes and not have emotions attached to it.

My friends can see the change in me, and I deal with difficult situations in a much better way. I feel like I have found the real me, the me I was born to be. A weight has lifted from my life, and I am looking forward to the future.

Rachael has helped me recover and repair myself in a fun and easy way.

Is it right for you?

That’s not for me to say but if you are serious about sorting out the issues that are affecting your life then I can 100% recommend you have a chat with Rachael. I did all my sessions over Zoom (six in total) so you don’t even need to travel.

My Reflection

This is what happens when we address the deeper patterns behind chronic stress, emotional pain and physical symptoms. It’s not about fixing or fighting the body, but creating the right conditions for it to repair itself.

Sarah’s story is a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t have to be hard. When we reconnect the mind, body and subconscious, even long-standing patterns can release in gentle, surprising ways. It can even be fun along the way at times, while still being serious about creating positive change and honouring both what has happened and what’s possible.

If you’ve been through a difficult period or feel like your body is still holding on to old stress, it might be worth exploring whether this kind of work could support you too. You don’t need to keep talking it through over and over. Often the biggest change happens when your body finally feels safe enough to let go.
