Support With Grief After Miscarriage: A Client Case Study.

Debbie reached out because she was looking for help processing grief connected to a miscarriage.

She had thought that she had moved forwards until Miscarriage Awareness Week brought everything to the surface again. It felt more present and harder to keep in the background, and she realised that although she understood what had happened, it still hadn’t been integrated in a way that allowed her to feel settled and able to talk about what had happened to her. This was something she wanted to be able to do without re-traumatising herself.

Debbie felt drawn to supporting women who are trying to conceive, and who had been through miscarriage, but knew she would need to be able to talk about her own experience without it taking over emotionally.

She wasn’t looking to keep going over the same story again. She wanted to be able to move forward and feel different within herself.

How Unresolved Grief After Miscarriage Was Showing Up For Debbie

As we went through our initial consultation, we established that there were a number of elements that were connected:

• Shock and confusion around what had happened at the time
• Moments where things didn’t make sense and felt hard to process
• Feeling overwhelmed emotionally, especially when it came back into awareness
• Holding things in rather than being able to express how she really felt
• Finding it difficult to ask for help
• A lack of trust in her body and in the decisions she made at the time
• Fear around getting it wrong or not seeing all the options
• Wanting to speak and share, but not feeling able to do that fully

As we started working together, it became clear that the impact of what she had experienced wasn’t limited to that time. It was influencing how safe it felt to express herself, how much she trusted her own decisions, and how able she felt to step forward in her work in the way she wanted to.

How We Worked Together Using An Embodied Approach

Rather than focusing on retelling what had happened, our sessions centered around helping her body process the emotional memory.
When events happen and you don’t have the resources to cope at that time, the emotional memory becomes trapped. This is when it sits below the surface waiting to be triggered.

Debbie’s mind and body guided us to both Root Cause Therapy and PSYCH-K® methods that enabled her to process those memories. From there Debbie was able to understand what had happened more clearly and see events from a new perspective without the emotional charge.

This included:

• Giving her body space to release what had been held
• Reducing the emotional intensity around the experience
• Helping her feel safe within herself when things came up
• Rebuilding trust in her body and her decisions
• Supporting her to speak and express without it feeling overwhelming

We worked together over 5 sessions across a 3-month period.

What Changed For Debbie After Working Through Her Grief

Over time, Debbie began to notice that the emotional weight of the experience was changing.

It no longer felt as intense when it came into her awareness, and she was able to stay present with it rather than feeling overwhelmed.

She found it easier to speak about what had happened, without shutting down or holding it in.

Her trust in her body and her decisions began to return, and with that came a greater sense of steadiness in how she responded to situations.

Asking for help no longer felt as difficult, and she no longer felt the same pressure to manage everything on her own.

What Changed Around Sharing Her Experience

Importantly, this also changed how she felt about sharing her experience in her business. What had previously felt too much to speak about began to feel possible.

Debbie is now able to talk about what happened without it feeling overwhelming and is starting to use her experience to support other women in the way she had originally intended.

Debbie’s Reflections On Our Time Together

As I approached October last year, I thought I knew how I was going to show up for my business and collaborate with others around the subject of miscarriage.  However, by the time I had worked on my first attempt at sharing my story, it was clear to me that I hadn’t yet fully processed parts of that journey, and so I contacted Rachael.

I knew that I didn’t need to just re-tell what had happened, but to actually enable my mind and body to process that period of time from 8 years ago.

We completed a mixture of in-person and online sessions, and each time I felt understood, safe, respected, and that Rachael was fully there for me.

The in-person sessions allowed me to really understand the muscle testing and PSYCH-K® methods, as I had never experienced anything like these before.

The online sessions allowed me to be in my own space, and we made sure to plan some activities for directly after the session so that I was able to continue moving and taking care of myself.

Since working with Rachael, I can look back at that part of my life with a different perspective. Thinking about, talking about, and writing about that period no longer overwhelms me, and I am hugely grateful that that chapter feels resolved, rather than something that affects how I move forward in the world.

I really appreciate all of the care that Rachael gave me during those sessions; she is so knowledgeable in all areas of her therapies that I felt totally safe and supported.

If you are considering working with Rachael, please know that you will be looked after and that she will make it easy for you to get to where you want to be. Thank you Rachael.
