Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Release the resistance to achieving your health goals with PSYCH-K®

Do you feel like you’re fighting yourself when it comes to losing weight, changing your eating habits, or making healthier life choices in general? Do you start a health kick, determined to improve your fitness, weight, or another health goal, only to find you’ve fallen off the wagon and slipped back into your old patterns a few weeks later?

It can be very frustrating when you feel like you are doing all the right things to have a healthy life, yet you don’t seem to be making any progress. When we strive to change our habits and lifestyle choices the first obvious thing to do is follow a plan. That’s what we’re conditioned to do?

However, we are not all the same. There’s no such thing as one size fits all. So, one person’s way of eating may work really well for them but not for you. Not only do different foods suit different people but there’s another element that’s often overlooked when it comes to creating change towards a healthier lifestyle–the role of our subconscious mind.

How does the subconscious affect my eating?

The subconscious mind is the part of your brain that’s running the show 95% of the time. It’s responsible for keeping you alive and safe, helping regulate the systems in your body. But it’s also responsible for 95% of your thoughts/self-talk, and how you act and react to things around you.

What’s that got to do with your eating habits? I hear you ask.

The subconscious has a lot of things to keep an eye on. So, it creates subconscious habits based on rules, and programs which are predominantly learned from your childhood. Our brains are wired in early life to absorb as much information as possible about what’s safe, what’s dangerous, how to fit in, and what our role is within the society we grow up in. It also learn strategies to keep us safe from significant experiences we have.

As you can imagine, in our busy, modern world there’s a lot going on, and things change very quickly. That means some of the beliefs you took on as a child may be inaccurate, misinterpreted, or no longer valid.

Things that happened when you were young, may not be an issue for you as an adult. However, the beliefs and rules your subconscious took that time are still running your life now

Problems arise when those habitual programs are a mismatch for what you want life to be like now, especially when you’re trying to make changes. This shows up as things like:

  • Procrastination is about doing the things that get you where you want to be-“I’llstart my diet tomorrow.”
  • Self-sabotage when you are trying to start new habits–“Oh just this onebiscuit won’t hurt.”
  • Feeling blocks or resistance to creating life changes–“Well, it probably won’twork anyway.”Or“I don’t have time to make a healthy lunch.”
  • Getting in your own way of achieving the results you really want.(All of the above)

Underlying all these things are unconscious and outdated limiting beliefs about the safety or possibility for you achieving your goals.

Examples of how your subconscious stops you changing eating habits.

Being slim is dangerous:

Alice wanted to lose weight and get fitter (Name changed for anonymity). She knew what she needed to do. She wanted to make healthier food choices and exercise more. She really enjoyed doing yoga and running and wanted to fit that into her week should have been easy, but she kept sabotaging herself. She couldn’t stick to healthy eating choices. She would start yoga classes or jogging, but a few weeks later realised she’d stopped.

She’d tried all sorts to help with making the changes, but nothing seemed to stick. Through the PSYCH-K® process, we uncovered what was really hampering her progress

Her subconscious didn’t think it was safe for her to be slim.

As a child and teenager, she’d had some negative attention from men. This was when she was fit, slim, and confident in her appearance. The belief her subconscious took on from this was that it was dangerous tobe thin, fit, and attractive. So, it made sure she failed all her attempts to start exercising, or that healthy eating habits didn’t stick.

By uncovering this link, using the PSYCH-K® Process she was then able to change the outdated beliefs to ones that supported a safe life. One where she was slim, fit, healthy, and attractive.

Since making those subconscious changes she is now naturally making better food choices, exercising more and her confidence has increased too.

A desire to feel a level of control.

Emily (Not her real name) was aware she had an unhealthy relationship with food since she was a teenager, and digestion issues since her twenties. Her diet had become more and more restrictive. She researched a lot about what you should and shouldn’t eat, followed a fasting plan, ate a limited range of foods, and kept a rigid eating routine.

She knew it wasn’t sustainable or healthy long term. It was impacting her life as she struggled to act out socially and had lost trust in her own body. She just didn’t know how to break the habit and relax her restrictions around food.

Through the PSYCH-K® Processshediscoveredher relationship with food had come from a need to feel in control. It was a way to deal with emotions. She’d not had a happy childhood and she had a difficult relationship with both parents. During the sessions, she gently released the stress and events from her past. She changed some of the unhelpful beliefs she had taken on board at that time and installed new supportive ones.

Since then, she has been more relaxed about food. She’s eating a wider range of foods without any negative impact on her digestion and is trusting in her body. Her thoughts about food are no longer all-consuming. She has also been able to come to peace with her parents and truly forgive them.

Expectations of becoming older.

Sometimes our beliefs come from comments made during childhood. Often not intended to harm, but a throwaway comment we latched onto, or beliefs handed down through generations. These can be things like:

  • All women in our family are big-boned.
  • It’s hard to stay slim after the menopause, you have to really watch what you eat.
  • It’s rude not to finish your plate.
  • Aren’t you filling out–or words to that effect as our body shapes changes through puberty

We can take on these comments as rules for life. Once we know the rules that are really riving our actions, it becomes clear why we might be getting in our own way of the health results and life we’re striving for. By changing these unhelpful beliefs at a subconscious level, you are removing the resistance to change. Suddenly your choices and actions become more easily aligned with your goals because you’ve re-written the rules for you and your life.

How PSYCH-K® helps release these blocks.

So how do you find out what limiting beliefs are stopping you achieve your health goals? The quickest and simplest way is to ask your subconscious, where those beliefs are stored.

In essence, that’s what we do in PSYCH-K®. It’s a Process that allows you to have a conversation with your subconscious mind. Starting from a place of “What’s not working for you in life right now?” and knowing what you want instead, we find out the beliefs or past events that are causing your life to be the way it is. Then you install new beliefs and programs that support you to achieve your goals. This is always done with your best and highest interests at heart. You will never create and install beliefs that aren’t appropriate for you.

If there is any significant stress or trauma in your past, you may never need to bring that up. If you do, thePSYCH-K® Process will have built you up first, so you’re ready to release and let it go? People often comment on how quick, painless, and calming this Process is.

Changing Your Beliefs Changes Your Reality

When you hold the beliefs that what you want to create in life is both safe and possible, every part of you is then aligned to achieve that. That means you will:

  • Naturally make food choices that help you feel good and nurture your body.
  • More easily find the time to exercise and move your body in an enjoyable way.
  • Find it easy to stick to your health goals and feel more at ease and in flow with your body
